There have been a TON of advancements in film and video over the last few years – film to video, big gear to portable gear, camcorders to DSLR’s, hot lamps to LED… and now, we may be on the cusp of a new technological advancement that may catch on in the next few years: plasma lighting.
Hive Lighting has found a way to make bulbs that are not only made of plasma but produce full spectrum daylight-balanced light, last 10,000 hours (30X longer than HMI), fully flicker-free, completely silent, generate little heat, and lack heavy & expensive ballasts.
They are 2X more energy efficient than existing HMIs and 4X to 7X more energy efficient than Tungsten based lights. Using just 275 Total Watts to get the equivalent output of a 400 Watt HMI or 1,000 Watt Tungsten Fresnel, each light can save a user up to $3,000 a year, without sacrificing light output or quality. Hive is developing a full line of legacy fixtures and retrofit kits using plasma, bringing all the benefits of this new technology to the world of media production.
THE BENEFITS OF PLASMA
High Intensity – 1k to 2K equivalent
Energy Efficient – 275w system draw
Flicker Free – over 1 million fps
No Ballast – less to lug
Color Accurate – 94 CRI
Full Spectrum – even across wavelengths
Totally Silent – for clean audio
